Podium finish for Oberkramer in Late Model Fall Nationals finale
On Friday and Saturday, Mason Oberkramer took to the track for the first time since the last weekend in August. Despite the time away, he drove to an impressive third-place finish in the Late Model Fall Nationals main event at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday night.
The Show-Me State native was one of 34 Super Late Model drivers at the 3/8-mile track in Wheatland, Missouri, when racing got underway on Friday evening. After a part failure meant he took ninth with a DNF in his heat race, he did not start his Premier Flatwork No. 93 in either his B-Main or the night's 30-lap, $5,000-to-win feature.
Oberkramer’s fortunes changed on Saturday, however, when he was among the frontrunners in a 35-car field. He started third in his heat and won by nearly three seconds. He also started third in the $10,000-to-win finale and led the first lap. Despite believing he chose the wrong tires, he finished third in the 50-lapper. He rounded out the podium after Tony Jackson Jr. and Chris Simpson, with Dillon McCowan and Gordy Gundaker taking fourth and fifth, respectively.
